Baptiste Marceau is a pioneer of the method commonly called Ashtanga Yoga, he has been practicing this technique for over 35 years and has divulgated it to the four corners of the planet!
He learned this science in Maui, Hawaii from an American master named David Williams, which whom he spent couple of years. David Williams brought Patthabi Jois for the first to California, and later on to Maui. Patthabi Jois along with Iyengar were disciples of Sri Krisnamacharya who was a Brahmin in the Vedanta lineage.
After spending several years in Maui, Baptiste then carried on with Danny Paradise, a Canadian yogui and tourbadour. They moved around the world teaching this martial practice.
His passion for the ancient cultures and oriental philosophies took him to spend 7 years in Asia. Baptiste assisted many workshops and also went to Mysore, India to learn the advance sequences of Ashtanga from Patthabi, at this time they were very few people seeking to learn this technique.
The word Ashtanga is a Sanskrit term meaning eight limbs which are the ethical content of the Yoga Sutras written by the grammarian Patanjali. After 25 years of steady practice the orthodox way, Baptiste Marceau developed a new sequence of postures within the Ashtanga method. He adapted this new sequence for all levels and in a more ludic way, never the less, he kept all the dynamic of the Ashtanga, incorporating different variations inspired by Egyptian yoga and martial arts.
Originally the knowledge of yoga was an occult science and was transmitted orally from generation to generation, only to the upper-class Warriors and Brahmins has access to this knowledge. Today, with globalization, yoga has spread everywhere.
He has lived also many years in Brazil and has had a deep contact with indigenous traditions.
His workshops are now a combination of all his knowledge, his principal theme is: “Yoga as an alchemical science of self-transformation”. He teaches the art of living through a deep connection with shamanism and with nature. Baptiste, being a story-teller, also teaches through the myths related with the postures (asanas) and with pranayama, this being the science of breathing; he emphasizes on how to canalize the vital energy as an introduction to the meditation.
Baptiste Marceau is a therapist that uses yoga as a tool to help the students find balance and inner peace. He recognizes the ancient lineages of the great masters with great respected, nevertheless he doesn't relate with dogmas or with an specific belief system, he is rather confident in the practice of a discipline allowing the human being to express his full potential to ameliorate the quality of life.
He actually lives in México making the link of yoga with shamanism!
